About

The Public health committee acts as the interface between the association and the public when it comes to health promotion and prevention practices, creating awareness on emerging issues in the communicable and non communicable disease world through media; legacy and social as well as through public fora and by creating partnerships, and collaborations with like minded organizations to aid in the acceleration and strengthening of this crucial agenda.

Vision

Supporting a healthier future for Kenyans, through empowering people and providing access to contextual information to allow them make informed health decisions, leading to thriving communities, reduced health disparities and an improvement in general health and well-being.

Mission

To promote and protect the community's health through advocacy, education and collaboration in disseminating health care resources.

Objectives

  • Advocacy - Intergovernmental and multi-sectoral collaboration towards the development and implementation of policies that enhance public health and address health disparities in devolved units and at the National level.
  • Education and awareness creation - develop strategic messaging around key health issues using multiple fora.
  • Collaboration - foster partnerships with key health organizations, community leaders and stakeholders to create a unified approach to tackling and preventing public health challenges.
  • Research and Data - promote research initiatives and partner with health research organizations in the dissemination of previously siloed health data.
  • Health Promotion - participate in campaigns that encourage healthy behavior and initiatives that safeguard health

Dr. Cynthia C. Chemonges
Dr. Cynthia C. Chemonges is a Consultant General Pathologist and Medical Lecturer with over 12 years of experience in clinical practice, diagnostic medicine, and medical education. Based in Nairobi, she holds an MBChB from Moi University and an MMed in Human Pathology from the University of Nairobi. Dr. Chemonges is deeply committed to advancing laboratory quality systems and public health standards. Within the Kenya Medical Association (KMA), she has served as Co-Convenor of the Public Health Committee, and she brings regional leadership experience as the Secretary General of the East African Division of the International Academy of Pathology (EADIAP).

Dr. Judith Nekesa Barasa
is a healthcare management professional and Tropical and Infectious Disease Specialist with over 13 years of experience spanning clinical practice, public health, and program leadership. She currently serves as the County TB, Leprosy, and Lung Health Program Coordinator for Nakuru County, where she directs integrated disease control interventions. Dr. Barasa is dedicated to strengthening healthcare systems and advancing disease surveillance, having successfully led high-impact initiatives in community-based TB active case finding and the integration of digital chest X-ray and AI-supported diagnostic tools.
